Akoya Pearls

Akoya - The most beautiful pearls in the world

In 1907, Mr. Kokichi Mikimoto, Mr. Tokichi Nishikawa and Mr. Tappei Mise invented the Spherical Pearl Cultivation Technology by using Akoya oysters in Japan.

Ever since, Japan has been leading the cultured pearl industry for more than 100 years.

It is said that the Japanese Akoya Pearl is the most beautiful pearl in the world. Japan has four distinct seasons, calm and fascinating ria coastlines and mature pearl cultivation technology. These are what make Japanese Akoya Pearls so gorgeous and special.

It takes 3 to 4 years to cultivate Akoya Pearls, from breeding the mother oysters to harvesting the pearls.

The nacreous layers of an Akoya Pearl are very thin and fine. Thousands of layers are formed on top of one another, creating a deep and mysterious luster. The cold winter weather in Japan is essential for the formation of these beautiful nacreous layers.
